The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease's Training and Education department will have a training course on the Clinical Management of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis from 21-25 November 2016, in Bangkok, Thailand.

This five-day intensive training course offered by internationally renowned TB experts consists of interactive in-class presentations, discussions and practical exercises, as well as a field visit to a PMDT site in Bangkok, aiming to strengthen participants' capacity in clinical and programmatic management of drug-resistant TB.

Target Audience: Clinicians who are responsible for diagnosis and treatment of drug-resistant TB, staff of national TB programme, and technical partners working in TB control in low- and middle-income countries, especially in settings where PMDT has been or is going to be implemented.

Objectives:

At the end of the course, participants should be able to describe:

Principles of TB control

Mechanisms in the emergence of drug-resistant TB

Global epidemiology of drug-resistant TB

Clinical manifestations of drug-resistant TB

Case finding strategies for drug-resistant TB

Utility and limitations of drug susceptibility testing

Mechanisms of action of anti-TB drugs

Principles in the treatment of MDR- and XDR-TB

Surgical interventions in the management of MDR- and XDR-TB

Management of contacts of drug-resistant TB

HIV and MDR-TB

MDR-TB in children
